Cheap Date Ideas: Big on Fun, Not on Cost

Is dating breaking your budget? It doesn't have to be expensive! Try some of these less-costly ideas when you head out on your next date.

  • Ice skating or sledding. These activities require a sled and skates, which you may already have, or you may be able to rent them. Further cut down on costs by making your own hot chocolate in a thermos before leaving the house.
  • Dress rehearsals. Call around to see if you can purchase tickets to the dress rehearsal of a musical or play you'd like to see. You will pay just a fraction of the price for the same performance.
  • Bowling. Shop around at different bowling alleys to find out which nights they have their best deals.
  • Cooking together. Plan a meal, go grocery shopping and then prepare it together. Not only is it less expensive than dining out, but it can be a lot of fun to cook together.
  • Museums. Many museums offer free admission or a small suggested donation one day a week.
  • Minor league sports. Major league games can be costly, so look into watching a minor league team instead.
